The big story in science news these days is the start of experiments with the Large Hardron Collider. I had a general idea about what a particle accelerator did, but here is an excellent video that explains how the LHC works:
Knowing that it is real makes me fell like we are living in the future; A future that is void of hovering cars.
Check out the Large Hadron Collider webcams here.
Everyone should be forced to watch that. Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteBut they really need to start working on those flying/hovering cars. Right now.
There has to be a simple way to making cars hover right? We can reproduce the big bang but we can make a chunk of metal hover?
ReplyDeleteI think our priorities are in the wrong spot.
Well-done video explanation. I only hope that their maintenance budget is better than where I work. We have trouble even making a simple fluorine pump work for more than a couple of weeks at a time. Last failure was due faulty materials -- no fault of ours, but it shut us down for two weeks. I can only imagine the complexity of the Hadron collider. One of the great things about the Hadron collider is that it is truly experimental science -- sometimes we have to do things because we can.
