Update Central

Update on my school work: It is almost done. I have a presentation tomorrow morning, an open book, open note test Friday, and a final that I am giving Tuesday morning and that is it for the semester.

I am not too far off from having a lifestyle that promotes long life... Well maybe i need to work on that 'Be rich' thing. Oh, and i have to not sleep so much... bah. ^_^

Two articles from the K-State Collegian

The first is about Yom Ha’Shoah, the Holocaust remembrance day:
Holocaust victims remembered

According to Aaron Brown, senior in criminology, remembering the horror and the death of World War II is necessary to save people of all faiths from ever being subjected to such torment.
“It’s very important to remember the past and what happened to these people,” Brown said. “If we don’t, we’ll let it happen again.”

And the second article:
Best Buy considering store in Manhattan

Lyle Butler, Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce president, said nothing has been finalized on the possible store.
"Best Buy is looking at Manhattan, but they haven't confirmed with anyone officially that they are coming to Manhattan," he said.
Butler said cashiers at the Topeka store have been promoting a store in Manhattan.
"People have been told by employees at the Topeka store to look for a store in Manhattan soon," he said.

Right now I would place this barley above a rumor level, but it would be really cool to get a Best Buy here.
Now, if we get a minor league indoor football team, and I won't need Topeka anymore.

NCAA approves 12-game season, avoids playoff talk

NCAA football changes:

The board of directors approved proposals on Thursday that would add a 12th game to Division I-A schedules -- starting in 2006.

Besides the 12th game, the NCAA will allow schools to count one victory over a I-AA opponent each year, starting this fall. Previously, schools could count one win every four years.

And smaller football programs, such as those in the Mountain West and Mid-American Conferences, also got good news. The NCAA will now allow schools to qualify for Division I-A if they average 15,000 in paid or actual attendance once every two years.

Some interesting changes, most notably is counting one I-AA game a year toward bowl eligibility. Also the topic of a playoff system was discussed, and the answer was:

Having touched 884p at the end of 2004, the shares [of Games Workshop] have slumped this year to 455p.

The stock price of Games Workshop is in a relative freefall at the moment (down 300p since April 1st). The author of the above article is not worried, because around 2000 GW did the same thing (got down to 100p) but sprung back up. I on the other hand am a little bit more worried.
2000 started the 'new' GW that we see today. All of Fanatic was starting up around then, and the much improved look of the Warhammer and Warhammer 40k universes were underway. Games Workshop was producing exciting stuff then, and things looked good for the future.
Now, things are not looking good. Fanatic stopped publication (got my last issue a couple days ago), and the Fanatic team was basically disbanded. Andy Chambers left (one of the founders of the modern GW). 40K has been redone, and now seems like a child’s game instead of something involving and compelling. I just can't help but think that falling share prices are something to worry about for GW fans.
It's not that the company is gonna go belly up; we will be able to see that coming. No, what could happen is something far worse than GW dyeing, Games Workshop could be bought by another company.
Why would that be the vampire's garlic? Because in today’s crap-tacular world of cheap thrills the parent company would have no love for long time players, and would focus all efforts on turning through as many new players as possible. The gaming systems would be wrecked, and Fanatic would never have a chance to be resurrected. Grim indeed.
I hope that this is just a repeat of the happenings around 2000, but in I fear that this is not the case.

T'Rants = squashed

It's official; the Topeka Tarantulas are dead. I can't find any good articles, because the Capitol Journal is too busy gloating about it. (They never supported the team, and the flimsy APFL gets way more love than the T'Rants ever did.)
Topeka’s inability to keep a hockey team means that i will not be looking there for a job.
(BTW KC lost the Outlaws as well.)

How busy was I today? This was my tea mug from this morning... it came with to BW3 because I didn’t have a chance to drop it off at home yet. That is a long day.
I got a lot of stuff done, but it feels like I didn’t get enough done. I think it is just because I know how much stuff I still have to do tomorrow.
Trivia went fine today; I won the Mini-six, and sucked it up in the Showdown. Lance got 3rd in the showdown, which was the best out of all of us. (I think)

Well I’m gonna watch Attack of the Show and then head off to bed. Stay turned for anything neat that ATOS tells me about. :)

Linkin Park Disses Record Label

The band claims it has been responsible for ten percent of the label's record sales over the past five years. Linkin Park owes Warner Music four more albums, but the band says they're looking into releasing music over the Internet and it does not plan to deliver a new album to Warner.

Lance and I were talking about P2P, bands, and RIAA today in the office, and we came to the conclusion that the only people that would go out of business if file sharing was encouraged is the RIAA. I would like to add that record labels would also be hurt. But in any case the people that have the talent (i.e. the bands) would not be hurt by file sharing, and in fact many of them would benefit from it. It looks like Linkin Park also realizes this.

Right now I am taking a break from working on stuff. I still have two problems for my homework to do as well as a write up for my project. Since they are both due on Thursday morning I have been working on that stuff lately, thus the lack of posts.

Well, I need to finish up some SAS, so that I don't need the computers to finish my homework.

Monday leftovers

I actually got a lot done today. I worked for about 4 hours today on stuff for 722, with a hop over to Planet Sub in there, but even while eating I was working on homework. Aren’t you proud of me. :D

Hockey went fine tonight. It isn’t that fun doing scrimmage when we don’t do something before hand, because everyone is full of energy, and since the arena is so small it is easy to get hurt. On that note I hurt my wrist tonight, but I will be fine.

OK Attack of the Show is back on.

Week 2 thoughts: The Koyotes are looking like the hands down best team again. The race is really for the number two team. In years past the Minutemen had the ‘honor’ of getting the beat down in the championship game, but this year their claim to whipping boy is challenged. The Nebraska Bears look to be the early favorite, with a close loss against the Koyotes in the first week. Iowa Blackhawks look like the other team to have a decent chance at being first loser. The Blackhawks win over Beasley’s Aviators do not look as impressive now, but they will get a good crack at the Koyotes this weekend. The Minutemen look like they are the outside team for getting into the playoffs. (Remember the top three teams get into the playoffs.) They must beat the Aviators, and get at least get two wins from the Blackhawks and Bears throughout this season. One thing we do know for sure: the Koyotes are good.

Monday Casserole

Last week of school...must make it.
Today will be a busy day filled with three cups 722 homework, one cup of the 722 project, a teaspoon of going to class, and a heaping tablespoon of hockey. Mix it together (add lunch if you like), simmer for 12 hours and viola! my Monday.

A new month, a new desktop. Here was my old one.

Yesterday after the picnic, Nicole and I went off to Topeka. We looked around town some and ate at Sarape’s. Afterwards we headed on over to the arena for the Koyotes vs Aviators game. Besides the Aviators first drive the team really did not put up a fight, and during the third quarter Beasley was benched for a more effective QB. It was a fun game, and Wichita did bring some fans, but alas, the Koyotes are just too good.
