Beijing- Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

From Yahoo News:

Some International Olympic Committee officials cut a deal to let China block sensitive websites despite promises of unrestricted access, a senior IOC official admitted on Wednesday.

Brilliant. Whoever let China host the Olympics should be fired. China has done nothing that it promised yet we still let them hold the Olympics. We should just break up the Olympic sports this year and hold them at sites around the world, and let China sit in their Bird's Nest all by themselves.

I guess, unless, this counts for reducing pollution:

Censoring content, sadly, is probably not going to affect my Olympic viewing habits.

It just bores the crap outta me.

Jeesh - can you imagine what the marathon runners are thinking, knowing that they have to run in that crap?

Sadly - China's going to do whatever it can get away with. The Olympic committee won't cancel the games. So, we just live with it and move on, I suppose.

Blocking web sites is bad news, but I'm more concerned with the US wiretapping laws that seem to be pretty-well accepted now. Over the last few years, since that Patriot Act, the US is one of the big offenders in this area.

earl- There are a couple of sports that I am looking forward to, soccer, to name the one that I can think of.

callie- I can't imagine trying to perform at a high level while only getting 80% of the oxygen that is normally available.

mikeb- While I don't disagree, that is quite off topic. This has nothing to do with wire tapping laws, this is an issue of China making promises to get the Olympics and then not following through on them. Everyone knew they weren't going to be true to their word, but they still got the Olympics anyways.

Hey they put up a bunch of signs telling people not to spit everywhere... isn't that enough? :)

I have not watched any oympics so far and plan not to. China is pretty freaking evil. I am really missing my gymnastics (my absolout favorite olympic sport!) but I really really HATE china. I wrote a list about why china is evil (so I wouldn't forget...just in case). I wrote it over the course of one meal, and it is pretty short because of that...I could add SO much more, but I don't even need to! That short list is so full of evil things that they, in themselves, are enough to want to have absoloutly nothing to do with them. You can't host the olympics, somethign that is supposed to bring the world together, and be that anti-human.
