Sukiyaki Western Django

This weekend, among other things, we watched Sukiyaki Western Django on Blu-Ray at Chris and Jenette's. I have been wanting to watch it since Charity showed up the trailer on Youtube. Now that I have seen it I don't really know what to think about the movie, but it is awesome. Sukiyaki is a western set in Nevada around the year 1100, with a Gatling gun at a settlement full of color-coordinated English speaking Japanese gunslingers. If that doesn't sound like your cup-of-tea, this movie isn't for you. However if that description piques your interest check out the trailer; it is basically what the movie is like.

If you ask me this will revive Japanese Cinema to overtake Hollywood.

I FREAKING LOVED THIS MOVIE!

Just saw it this weekend as well. It started out real slow for me because of the awful QT cameo in the beginning and the decision to go with Japanese actors speaking English and I don't hear very well. But it really kicked in quickly.

One note: The move takes place "several centuries after the Battle of Dan-no-ura" which occurred in 1185. Interesting in that the film is actually based on the real conflict between the Genji (white) and the Heike (red). The gatling gun would place the film in the mid 19th century, but it really exists in a time or a place that never really existed.

I was actually planning on blogging about it myself tonight. Maybe I still will.

Thanks for the correction on the date, I read the battle was in the 1100's but that must have been talking about the first battle not the subject of this movie.

We had English subtitles on for awhile until we got used to the english they were using.

I think you should post about it still, like to hear what you think about it.

Okay fine. I like the movie quite a bit. After seeing it, I was a bit confused as to my opinion. But that trailer reminded me of all the fun this movie is. Let's buy it!

@Slyde - You probably should see it.

@Nicole - It is a movie that probably won't get old when watching it over and over.

Good to see you guys liked the movie. And on a totally unrelated note, do you guys know how many books I have to read this weekend?!? And, of course, one's out of print and unavailable at the bookstore...grad school rocks...

But I have my own teensy room at the library so all my hopes and dreams have been met!
