Slavery, eating animals, same thing.

PETA

Just as it was always wrong to oppress and abuse less powerful humans, it is wrong to abuse and oppress animals. Because today's victims of tyranny are unable to defend themselves, it is vital that people of principle speak out for them.

This should outrage people. Think about that, PETA is comparing eating animals (which people do all over the world) to slavery. As sane people we should not just let them discredit the hardships that slaves had to face. Unless of course you do think that slaves were just animals....

I really don't like PETA.

Now I'm no friend of PETa. They are radical extremists that should take a few lessons from MLK. However, I do agree with some of their basic principles (i.e. that we should treat animals with respect and kindness). They do not compare eating animals to slavery (at least not in the quote you put up) but the treatment of animals (particularly those used for food) to that of slavery. While humans are certainly more sentient than animals, the abuse of animals without purpose is as wrong as the abuse of humans. No creature deserves to be hurt. Food animals should fall under the same restrictions of housing and care as research animals. They can feel the pain and it should be minimized. Factory farms are hell on animals and I think it's wrong.

I do agree with the basic principals of PETA, but they just go too far, and it seems everyone turns a blind eye to the crap that they pull.

The quote didn't directly say that slavery is the same as eating animals, but the whole article does (or stops maybe 1/20th of a step away from saying it).

Unfortunately, most supporters of PETA are the sane ones, it's those that for the core that are insane. Not good recipe for a useful organization. (It’s the same for Scientology)
