Wal-Mart

prnewswire (article)

Wal- Mart President and CEO Lee Scott contacted President Clinton and the WhiteHouse and committed $15 million from Wal-Mart to jump-start the effort.
As part of this commitment, Wal-Mart will establish mini-Wal-Mart stores in areas impacted by the hurricane. Items such as clothing, diapers, babywipes, food, formula, toothbrushes, bedding and water will be given out free of charge to those with a demonstrated need.

Really, Walsmart is a good company. Other people don't belive it, but they are.

Walmart actually really does quite a bit despite the fact they tend to import a lot of "American Made" goods in it seems. When I worked there, for sure I know of tons of programs that raised money, needed items or even just awareness of different charities and groups. I remember specifically there was a program that if you actually just volunteered time at an organization (they had to have some sort of tax status to be eligible) for like..15 hours every quarter, they would donate $50 in the associate's name to the organization... I know at my store we'd have days where we could pay a dollar and could wear jeans to work that day, the money going to charity. Don't even get me started on the Children's Miracle Network stuff they did too. I think my store one year donated nearly $50,000 alone.

Yes they are an evil corporation that sucks to work for, but really they're good people.

Wal-Mart is an evil corporation....that saved me somewhere in the neighborhood of about $500 the entire last year and a half I was in grad school.

Capitalism is the worst economic system ever conceived.....so long as you don't take into account any of the other economic systems that have ever existed.
