Living Dolls

cbc.ca (article)

I just got done watching an HBO documentary about beauty pageants for girls (ages 0-7 and above). The show was called "Living Dolls: The Making of a Child Beauty Queen" and it did a wonderful job of showing how absurd the practice is of dressing up 6 year olds to look like 26 year old sex objects. The camera work was great and there are many shots where you have to smile about the insanity that the parents have in doing that to their children. The best shot comes at the end when Swan, the focus of the documentary, finally wins the grand championship and is holding up money as a prize (as posed by the people there). Swan and all those girls have learnt at a very early age that sex equals money. Sick.
The documentary never speaks out against the pageant, but instead uses the parents own words and actions to show how wrong this is. It is really a great show and if you happen to be flipping through HBO and happen to catch it, watch it for a second, it is amazing.
